The 2026 university preference period for Turkey's Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) opened on 29 July 2026 at 11:45 UTC and will close on 10 August 2026 at 23:59. All applications must be submitted electronically through the ÖSYM AİS system or its mobile app; paper submissions are invalid. More than 2.425 million candidates took the YKS exams, and a total of 805,747 university seats are available, including 602,117 state, 184,914 private and 18,716 seats in Northern Cyprus institutions. Special quotas reserve places for women over 34, war‑victim families and their relatives. The Ministry of Education has established 11,576 advisory units nationwide to guide candidates, and students may modify their preference lists at any time before the deadline without any fee. Program codes are six‑digit numbers listed in the ÖSYM guide tables, and candidates are reminded to verify codes before submitting their choices. ÖSYM President Bayram Ali Ersoy emphasized the importance of consulting the guide and YÖK Atlas during the process.
