KPZ Igman prison lacks water connection despite 21 million KM cost

The KPZ Igman correctional facility in Blažuj, which opened in May, lacks a connection to the public water supply network. Despite the facility costing nearly 21 million KM—funded by 11.7 million KM from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina budget and 9 million KM from the European Union—the water supply was not included in the original project.

Currently, water for inmates and staff is provided via reservoirs refilled daily by water tankers, incurring additional costs. Legal representatives for several inmates have criticized the conditions, describing them as inhumane, with reports of detainees having to bathe using small containers or bottles.

The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina plans to allocate 2.5 million KM to construct the necessary water network. The Ilidža Municipality has also expressed interest in the project, which would also aim to resolve water supply issues for surrounding residential areas.
