Krafton cancels development of PUBG: Black Budget

Krafton has announced the cancellation of PUBG: Black Budget, an ambitious PvPvE extraction shooter. The decision follows an internal review of the project’s development status and future direction.

In a statement released via Steam, PUBG Studios explained that they concluded the game’s current trajectory would not allow them to provide a long-term experience that players would enjoy. The project, which was first mentioned in investor presentations in late 2023, featured a supernatural setting on an island trapped in a time loop. While it had undergone closed alpha testing, it never reached a full commercial release.

This marks the second recent cancellation for the PUBG franchise; the tactical shooter PUBG: Blindspot was also discontinued after only two months in early access. Krafton stated that the studio will apply lessons learned from the development and testing of Black Budget to future projects.
