Kragujevac installs five traffic cameras in test of future AI‑controlled intersection

The public utility JKP Šumadija placed five cameras at the intersection near Grošnica station in Kragujevac. According to sector head Dragomir Čairović, the cameras are currently used only to count vehicles and are in a testing phase that could lead to an AI‑managed "smart" intersection.

In Belgrade, a 1977 proposal by the Institute Mihajlo Pupin outlined a computer‑aided traffic system that would use detectors, computers and TV cameras to regulate up to 400 intersections. The plan envisioned synchronized signal control to reduce congestion, but it remained a historical concept rather than an implemented project.
