Approximately 3,000 participants gathered in the PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk industrial area in Cilegon on August 30, 2026, for the Steel Run 2026. The event, which featured 5km and 10km categories, was held to commemorate the 56th anniversary of Krakatau Steel.

Banten Governor Andra Soni officially opened the race, noting that the growing popularity of running reflects a shift toward lifestyle and recreational needs. He highlighted the potential for such events to develop into sport tourism, which could provide economic benefits to local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by offering a platform to sell culinary, fashion, and craft products.

Akbar Djohan, President Director of PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk, stated that the event aims to build positive community relations and introduce the industrial zone through an inclusive approach. He described the event as a blend of sport and entertainment designed to demonstrate the company's optimism and resilience within the global steel manufacturing industry.
