Kraken integrates banking and brokerage services via unified ledger

Kraken is expanding its financial services by integrating exchange, brokerage, and banking functions into a single ledger. This unified approach allows customers to use various assets, including crypto, fiat, and tokenized stocks, as collateral for trading without needing to sell them or perform manual transfers between wallets.

In the European Economic Area, the company has launched its ‘Unified Wallet’ feature. This tool unifies spot, margin, and Earn balances into a single collateral pool for futures trading. The system accepts over 40 cryptocurrencies, as well as euros, dollars, and gold, as eligible collateral.

To support its banking ambitions, Kraken has agreed to acquire Saldo, a Lithuanian bank, with the transaction expected to close in 2027 following regulatory approval. Co-CEO Arjun Sethi stated that the company aims to provide a 24/7 system capable of managing cash, crypto, and tokenized assets as a single balance, eventually offering interest on customer balances and lending services in Europe.
