Krakow charity faces investigation over 3 million PLN fraud

Three individuals associated with the Maria Konopnicka Children's Aid Society in Krakow are facing serious criminal charges following an investigation into the misappropriation of funds. The District Prosecutor's Office in Krakow is investigating allegations of fraud exceeding 3 million PLN, participation in an organized criminal group, and money laundering.

Between August 2014 and November 2023, the association conducted continuous public collections across Poland using donation boxes in various service points. Prosecutors allege that only a negligible portion of the donated funds was used for the treatment and rehabilitation of sick children. Instead, the majority of the money was allegedly transferred to the private bank accounts of three individuals linked to the association, including its president, to cover personal expenses.

Two individuals, identified as Ewa S. and Rafał O., were detained in early August. They face charges of large-scale fraud, money laundering, and involvement in an organized crime group. Both have denied the charges and have been placed in temporary detention for three months by court order.
