Kraków hosts IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon, drawing over 3,700 participants
The Enea IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon returned to Kraków for a second edition, attracting more than 2,000 athletes in the swim‑bike‑run race. Including relay teams, the Good Morning Run and children’s races, total participation exceeded 3,700 people, a rise of over 10 % from the previous year. Organisers highlighted the event’s contribution to sport tourism and the city’s international profile. Tomasz Marzec, director of the City Sports Infrastructure Board, said the race brings “real benefits for the local economy” and helps promote Kraków worldwide. He was joined by regional deputy marshal Witold Kozłowski, who noted the city’s experience from the 2023 European Games and the positive impression visitors gain of Kraków, Bochnia and the wider Małopolska region.
The race’s route runs through historic streets, including the Main Market Square and Vistula boulevards, prompting extensive traffic management. Road closures and special lanes were in effect from 07:00 to 15:00, with a dedicated hotline and a mobile‑app‑based detour system for drivers. Critics argue that the spectacle may disrupt daily life and question whether the promotional gains justify the inconvenience to residents.
