Krakow releases draft General Plan for city development
The city of Krakow has released a draft version of its General Plan, making the document available online for public review as of October 29, 2026. The draft, dated July 31, 2026, is part of a broader spatial planning reform in Poland.
The General Plan is a critical document for the city's future, as it defines how various areas will be utilized and what types of buildings can be constructed. It categorizes the city into specific zones, including residential, service, green/recreational, and communication areas. Additionally, it establishes fundamental building parameters such as maximum height and minimum biologically active surface area.
While the plan will serve as the basis for local spatial management plans and building condition decisions, it will not alter existing local plans. The document must still undergo several stages before final adoption, including obtaining necessary opinions, agreements, and conducting public consultations. Ultimately, the Krakow City Council must pass the plan. This new document will replace the previous Study of Conditions and Directions of Spatial Management, which expired on August 31, 2026.
