Kraków and Katowice airports suspended due to aircraft radio loss

Air traffic at Kraków and Katowice airports in Poland was suspended for approximately 30 minutes on Monday due to a security incident involving a small aircraft. The disruption occurred between roughly 14:50 and 15:20.

A Cessna 185 with Czech registration, traveling from Hungary toward Suwałki, lost radio contact with local services while flying over Slovakian airspace. Due to the inability to establish communication and determine the pilot's intentions, security protocols were activated.

A pair of Czech JAS-39 Gripen fighter jets intercepted the aircraft and escorted it to a safe landing at Kraków Airport. While Polish military forces were placed on high alert, they did not need to intervene directly. Following the safe landing of the Cessna, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency confirmed that airspace operations returned to normal.
