Kraków election results show decline in left-wing support
The recent mayoral election in Kraków has highlighted a decline in support for left-wing political forces. Daria Gosek-Popiołek of Nowa Lewica received 4.81% of the vote, a result that fell short of exit poll expectations and was surpassed by Aleksandra Owca of the Razem party, who secured 6.91%.
Włodzimierz Czarzasty, leader of Nowa Lewica and Marshal of the Sejm, expressed concern over the drop in left-wing popularity in the city. He noted that the combined vote for left-wing candidates in Kraków has decreased from approximately 16.71% in previous elections to roughly 11.72% in this cycle.
Despite the poor performance for the left, Czarzasty emphasized that these local results do not necessarily reflect the national political landscape, noting that the first-round leader, Łukasz Gibała, is a regional politician not affiliated with a major party. The second round of the election is set to take place on October 11 between Gibała and Monika Piątkowska.
