Kraków faces scrutiny over nursery occupancy and air quality

In Kraków, recent data has raised questions regarding the efficiency of municipal investments and environmental policies. Analysis from the EksperciOdŻłobków profile indicates that 10 new municipal nurseries have an occupancy rate of only approximately 14 percent, with 824 out of 958 available places remaining unfilled as of September 2026.

Simultaneously, environmental data from the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection, reviewed by the Frank Bold Foundation, shows that nitrogen dioxide levels exceed permissible limits across 204 square kilometers of the city. This area represents 62 percent of Kraków's surface and is home to roughly 85 percent of its population. The findings suggest that reducing or eliminating the Clean Transport Zone (SCT) could lead to significant health risks and violate European Union law.
