Kraków installs speed bumps on Solna Street after fatal accident

Authorities in Kraków have installed speed bumps on Solna Street following a fatal accident on August 22, where a vehicle drove onto a sidewalk and killed a married couple. The new traffic organization, which includes “cushion-type” speed bumps, aims to enforce a 30 km/h speed limit without requiring a full reconstruction of the street.

Acting President Stanisław Kracik announced the measures after officials analyzed several options to calm traffic in the area. While the city maintains that these bumps are the most optimal solution for immediate speed reduction, some local residents have criticized the move as being too late and insufficient. Critics argue that the wide lanes may allow drivers to bypass the bumps and that more significant structural changes to the road layout are necessary.

Regarding the accident, 26-year-old Hubert B. has been charged with unintentionally causing a traffic accident. Investigations revealed he was traveling at approximately 70 km/h at the time of the collision. He was not under the influence of alcohol or other psychoactive substances during the incident.
