Kraków postal worker prevents 20,000 PLN investment scam
A postal worker in Kraków, Poland, successfully prevented an elderly woman from losing 20,000 PLN to an investment scam. The woman had visited a Poczta Polska branch to transfer the funds to a bank account number she had received via SMS.
During the transaction, the woman was continuously on a phone call with an individual instructing her on how to behave and what to say to staff. Suspicious of the client's behavior, the employee intervened and convinced the woman to call the police. Officers confirmed that the situation was an attempted fraud.
Investigations revealed that the scammers had been building the victim's trust for several weeks. They initially convinced her to deposit 800 PLN and then returned a fake profit of 100 PLN to establish credibility. The planned 20,000 PLN transfer was intended to yield much larger fraudulent gains. The perpetrators also reportedly used psychological pressure and threats of financial consequences to ensure compliance.
