Kraków youth center faces allegations of mistreatment

Allegations of mistreatment have surfaced regarding the St. Faustina Youth Educational Center in Kraków, a facility run by the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Mercy. Former residents and staff have described harsh conditions and punitive measures used by the nuns who manage the center.

Reports indicate that residents faced punishments such as being locked in isolation and being denied leave. The facility, which aims to prepare teenagers for traditional roles as wives and mothers, has faced scrutiny following the escape of five residents in August 2025. The center is one of three such facilities operated by the congregation, which also includes locations in Wrocław and Kalisz, under the pedagogical supervision of local education superintendents.
