Kranenburg emergency response to biomass leak on B9 highway

A large-scale emergency response was triggered on Tuesday morning on the B9 highway near Kranenburg after a liquid leak was reported from a tanker truck. Due to the initial uncertainty regarding the substance, fire departments from Kranenburg, Nütterden, and Frasselt were alerted, and the CBRN unit of the Kleve district was put on standby as a precaution.

Upon investigation by emergency responders, the substance was identified as biomass intended for a biogas plant rather than a hazardous material. Consequently, the CBRN unit was instructed to abort its deployment. Because the tanker could not be fully shut off, firefighters focused on containing the spread of the biomass and securing the area where the liquid had spread across the roadway.

No injuries were reported. Straßen. NRW was commissioned to clean the contaminated road surface. The operation concluded after approximately one hour once the site was handed over to the responsible authorities.
