Kranzberg debates end of monthly childcare subsidies

In Kranzberg, the municipal council is debating the upcoming termination of a 100 euro monthly state parental contribution subsidy, scheduled for January 2027. While Mayor Petra Horneber expressed support for the reform—noting that the removal is intended to be offset by a phased increase in quality bonuses for kindergartens, nurseries, and after-school care—the decision has caused significant debate. The finance committee is currently investigating whether low-income families could be provided with alternative subsidies of 50 or 60 euros.

Treasurer Angelika Huber cautioned against relying solely on the promised quality and team bonuses, noting that these increases are subject to reservations. Meanwhile, local representatives like Anton Hierhager have advocated for continuing the full 100 euro payment to parents, suggesting the costs could be recouped through the anticipated bonus increases.
