Krasimir Karakachanov addresses Bulgarian security and Russian influence
VMRO leader Krasimir Karakachanov has defended his support for politician Yotova, citing her experience and moderation as essential for Bulgaria’s security in an increasingly unstable global environment.
Addressing reports of Russian soldiers training in Bulgaria, Karakachanov dismissed the claims as illogical and likely sensationalism, suggesting such events would have predated the current conflict. He noted that Russia possesses extensive training grounds and would not need to send troops to Bulgaria under current restrictions.
Regarding a US report on Russian hybrid attacks against Bulgaria, Karakachanov stated that while the country is vulnerable, it must build a comprehensive defense system against all potential threats. He also cautioned against focusing solely on Russia, suggesting that other historical influences and regional actors should be considered. Additionally, he criticized the perceived politicization of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).
