Kratos and GE Aerospace ignite F143 cruise missile engine

Kratos Defense & Security Solutions and GE Aerospace have successfully ignited the GEK800 turbofan propulsion system at Kratos’ X-58 facility. This milestone marks the beginning of a new testing campaign for the engine, which has been designated the F143.

The engine is being developed to provide high-performance propulsion for advanced cruise missiles, specifically designed to meet requirements for affordable, long-range stand-off strike capabilities. The program aims to combine modern engineering with manufacturing methods that prioritize cost-effectiveness and rapid production, supporting the deployment of both advanced strike systems and attritable weapons.

Following the successful ignition, the companies will move into a new phase of testing focused on demonstrating the engine’s performance and durability before advancing toward full-scale production and integration with cruise missile systems.
