Körber-Stiftung launches history competition on food and drink

The 30th round of the Geschichtswettbewerb des Bundespräsidenten (the Federal President's History Competition) has launched with the theme ‘Over the Rim: Food and Drink in History’. Organized by the Körber-Stiftung, this is Germany's largest historical research competition.

Participants can include children and young adults from primary school up to age 21, competing individually, in groups, or as a class. The competition offers 550 prizes at state and federal levels. The theme aims to explore how access to food, luxury items, and the introduction of foreign products reflect historical changes, power dynamics, and social inequalities.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has personally called for participation, noting that studying the history of food and drink helps create awareness regarding future challenges in fair, healthy, and environmentally sustainable nutrition.
