Krefeld marks start of Königshofer Altbierstollen season

The seasonal production of the Königshofer Altbierstollen has officially begun in Krefeld. Mayor Gisela Klaer performed the ceremonial first cutting of the stollen during the ‘Krefelder Herbstzauber’ event held at the racecourse.

Created by Rudolf Weißert, master baker and former head of the Niederrheinische Bäcker-Innung Krefeld-Viersen-Neuss, the patented recipe has been in production for 20 seasons. The stollen is characterized by a savory-fruity profile, featuring apricots, dates, raisins, plums, nuts, and almonds that are soaked in Altbier from the Königshof brewery. A touch of cayenne pepper is added to balance the sweetness of the marzipan and butter.

For every 15-euro stollen sold, two euros are donated to the ‘Spiel ohne Ranzen’ charity initiative, which supports local bakers' efforts to assist children in need.
