Kremlin says Russia will closely monitor NATO summit in Ankara
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow will watch the NATO summit in Ankara very closely, describing the pre‑summit remarks about Russia as “confrontational”. He said Russia will follow all information emerging from the meeting and hopes recent U.S. initiatives, including President Donald Trump’s call for European allies to raise defence spending, will help steer the conflict toward a peaceful outcome. Peskov added that, as President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated, Russia remains open to a diplomatic settlement of the Ukraine war. The summit brings NATO leaders together amid heightened trans‑Atlantic tensions over the wars in Ukraine and Iran and disputes such as the Greenland issue.
