KRG leaders call for disarmament in Iraq and support Turkish peace process

Leaders within the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) have voiced support for state authority and regional stability. KRG Prime Minister Mesrur Barzani called for the collection of all weapons outside the control of the state, government, and legitimate authorities to ensure the rule of law prevails throughout Iraq.

Barzani also addressed the political deadlock in the KRG, urging members of the parliament to end their boycott of sessions. He emphasized that reactivating the parliament is a fundamental step toward forming a new government, a process that has remained stalled for approximately two years following elections.

Separately, Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Politburo member Talabani expressed full support for the peace process in Turkey aimed at eliminating terrorism. Talabani noted that the process presents historic opportunities and stated a readiness to provide support where needed. He also expressed optimism regarding ongoing negotiations between Erbil and Baghdad, noting that strengthening Iraq does not imply a weakening of the Kurdistan Region.
