Kribi undergoes urban modernization and security reinforcement
Kribi is undergoing significant urban transformation and security restructuring to support its growing status as an economic and tourist hub. Under the direction of Mayor Guy Emmanuel Sabikanda, the Kribi Urban Community is implementing a modernization program focused on sanitation, public order, and infrastructure. Key initiatives include the rehabilitation of urban roads, the installation of solar streetlights, and the construction of public toilets in neighborhoods such as Massaka, Mpangou, and Afan Mabe. Additionally, 28 municipal police agents have undergone professional training to improve urban management.
Parallel to these development efforts, Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji has called for heightened security measures to combat rising urban crime. During a security meeting on August 21, 2026, the Minister urged law enforcement and traditional authorities to increase repression against theft and aggression. This push for increased security aims to protect investors, workers, and tourists as the region expands through major projects like the deep-sea port, a new industrial zone, and various manufacturing plants.
