Križevci hosts record-breaking traditional food competition

The municipality of Križevci in Slovenia hosted a record-breaking national and social evaluation of the traditional dish 'ajdov kropec' as part of the Kmečki bal 2026 event. Organized by the Križevci-Veržej Farmers' Society, the Municipality of Križevci, and the Union of Slovenian Farmers, the event focused on preserving cultural heritage and local identity.

A total of 51 samples were submitted for evaluation using a 100-point method. The judging commission included Irena Ule, president of the Union of Slovenian Farmers, along with culinary educators Elvira Štumpfin and Zdenka Tompa. The competition saw participation across generations, with the oldest contestant approaching 90 years of age.

The festivities included a parade representing all 16 villages of the Križevci municipality, featuring tractor veterans, folklore groups, and musical performances. The event also showcased traditional agricultural practices, such as grain threshing with an old thresher.
