Križevci seeks authority to issue building permits independently

The City of Križevci is demanding the authority to independently issue building and occupancy permits, currently managed by the Koprivnica-Križevci County. Mayor Tomislav Katanović and City Council President Goran Hrg argue that the current centralized process hinders economic development and investment due to administrative delays.

Katanović reported that processing times in Križevci average between four and six months, contrasting this with Bjelovar, where permits are issued in approximately 26 days. The city leadership claims they possess the necessary technical and human resources to handle these tasks, noting that other cities of similar or smaller size, such as Đurđevac, have already been granted this autonomy.

The dispute has taken a political tone following comments from County Prefect Tomislav Golubić regarding regional development. Katanović criticized the County's reasoning for denying the request, suggesting that the refusal lacks clear criteria and serves political rather than developmental interests. The city administration maintains that faster administration is essential for entrepreneurs and for the timely execution of EU-funded projects.
