Krimml hosts 20th commemorative hike for post-war Jewish exodus

The Alpine Peace Crossing (APC) organization held its 20th commemorative hike in Krimml, Salzburg, to honor the Jewish mass exodus that occurred in the post-war period. Approximately 250 participants, including individuals from Austria, Germany, the United States, Australia, and Israel, gathered to remember the journey of survivors and refugees.

Between 1945 and 1948, more than 200,000 Jewish people fled through Austria toward Italy, eventually traveling by ship to the British Mandate of Palestine. Many of these individuals passed through the Givat Avoda displaced persons camp near Saalfelden, where they were prepared for the trek across the Alps. The hike serves to keep the memory of these pioneers and their journey through the Krimmler Tauern alive.
