Kris Mayes and Warren Petersen campaign for Arizona Attorney General

Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes and Republican challenger Warren Petersen are intensifying their campaigns for the upcoming Arizona midterm elections. During recent events in the Phoenix metropolitan area, Mayes urged Democratic supporters to mobilize for the November vote, while Petersen, the current Arizona Senate President, criticized the incumbent for being soft on crime.

Mayes’s campaign has launched a website accusing Petersen of engaging in “pay-to-play” politics. The site alleges that Petersen has received significant contributions from companies and political action committees that Mayes has previously investigated. Specifically, the campaign cites donations from BoaVida, a management firm involved in litigation with the Attorney General’s office, as well as contributions from a private prison company, a nicotine vape manufacturer, and an online sweepstakes-casino operator.

In response to the election, Petersen has emphasized his focus on public safety and freedom, citing his experience leading the Senate as preparation for the role. He has also been noted for his efforts to overturn the Voters’ Right to Know Act, a ballot initiative regarding political donation disclosures.
