Kris van Dijck to lecture on Napoleon's influence in Kaatsheuvel

Kris van Dijck will deliver a lecture on Napoleon Bonaparte and his significant influence on the Netherlands at the Gildenbond in Kaatsheuvel on Saturday, October 10. The presentation will explore how the French Emperor's reign left lasting legacies, including the introduction of the Civil Registry (Burgerlijke Stand), the implementation of the Code Civil in Dutch law, and the standardization of the metric system.

Van Dijck will also discuss Napoleon's personal history in the region, noting that during an extensive tour in the autumn of 1811, the Emperor visited approximately forty locations in the Netherlands to inspect harbors and defensive works.
