Krishna Mukerji, mother of Rani Mukerji, dies at 75

Krishna Mukerji, the mother of Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji and a former playback singer, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, at the age of 75. The news was confirmed by Yash Raj Films, which issued a statement on behalf of the family requesting privacy during this period of grief.

Krishna Mukerji was a figure in the music industry, known for her work in both Bengali and Hindi cinema, including the song ‘Idd Ke Din Gale Mil Le Raja’ from the 1982 film ‘Teesri Aankh’. She was married to filmmaker Ram Mukerji, a co-founder of Filmalaya Studios, who passed away in 2017. The couple had two children, Rani and Raja Mukerji.

Rani Mukerji has frequently credited her mother as a major influence on her life and career, noting that Krishna was the one who initially encouraged her to pursue acting. Following the news, several prominent members of the Indian film industry, including Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, and Karan Johar, attended the funeral services in Mumbai to pay their respects.
