Kristen Johnston recalls addiction during ‘Sex and the City’ filming

Actress Kristen Johnston revealed during an appearance on the ‘Dear Chelsea’ podcast that she was struggling with addiction while filming her memorable guest appearance on ‘Sex and the City’. Johnston, 58, portrayed the character Lexi Featherston in the sixth season, a socialite who famously falls to her death from an 18th-story window.

Johnston described herself as a ‘hot mess’ during that period, noting that she frequently consumed wine and occasionally used cocaine following theater performances. She explained that her addictive behaviors stemmed from a lifelong need to escape, stating, ‘I did not like being in my skin.’

Reflecting on her journey, Johnston noted that she has maintained sobriety for approximately twenty years. She discussed the challenges of transitioning to a sober lifestyle, specifically the difficulty of finding ways to occupy time in the evenings without alcohol.
