Kristi Noem transitions to State Department advisor role
Kristi Noem has concluded her role as the special envoy for the Shield of the Americas initiative following the expiration of her appointment last month. A State Department official confirmed that while her formal envoy status has ended, Noem remains active within the administration.
Noem has transitioned into a new position as a senior advisor to Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. In this capacity, she will continue to manage the Shield of the Americas portfolio, which focuses on regional security cooperation, economic matters, and anti-cartel enforcement across the Western Hemisphere.
The Shield of the Americas is a coalition established by the Trump administration involving the United States and several Caribbean and Latin American nations. Noem, who previously served as Homeland Security Secretary before being replaced in March, noted that the envoy role was intended as a six-month appointment.
