Kristi Noem transitions to senior adviser role at State Department

Kristi Noem has transitioned to a senior adviser role at the State Department following the conclusion of her six-month appointment as special envoy for the Shield of the Americas. In her new capacity, Noem will advise Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau while continuing her work on the Shield of the Americas portfolio, which focuses on regional security, economic coordination, and anti-cartel enforcement across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Reports indicate that Noem’s tenure as special envoy, which began in March after she was replaced as Homeland Security Secretary, was always intended to be a six-month term. While the job change itself appears legitimate, controversy has emerged regarding an unauthorized press release posted by Noem on X. Sources claim the statement, which used a fake letterhead to announce her new role, was never approved by the State Department.
