Kristianstad Moderates propose repurposing pools amid rising municipal debt

The Moderate Party in Kristianstad has addressed the closure of swimming pools in Tyringe and Bjärnum, citing severe municipal debt. Since 2013, the municipality has borrowed over 1.5 billion SEK, with total debt approaching 2 billion SEK, resulting in annual interest payments exceeding 50 million SEK.

Due to these financial constraints, the party states the municipality can only afford to maintain one central swimming pool to ensure fairness for all residents. However, they propose repurposing existing facilities rather than simply abandoning them. For the Tyrs Hov facility in Tyringe, the goal is to develop the site using external funding from organizations such as Allmänna arvsfonden and RF Sisu.

Other proposals include converting parts of the Sparbankshallen in Vinslöv to accommodate a wrestling club and an expanded bowling alley, as well as utilizing the old pool area in Hässleholm for home care services.
