Kristianstad pushes to rename Fredrik Böök street over Nazi past

In the Swedish city of Kristianstad, local activists and citizens are urging the municipality to change the name of a residential street that honors Fredrik Böö​k, a well‑known literature professor and former member of the Swedish Academy. While Böök was celebrated for his scholarly work, he also expressed Nazi‑sympathetic views and praised Adolf Hitler, which many argue makes a street name inappropriate in a modern, multicultural community.

The appeal, voiced in a submitted letter, calls for replacing Böök’s name with that of a distinguished female role model born in Kristianstad.
