Kristina Liutova Wins First WTA Title in Memphis at Age 16

Russian teenager Kristina Liutova captured the WTA 250 Memphis Classic on 2 August 2026, defeating Czech player Darja Vidmanova 1‑6, 6‑1, 6‑3 in the final at the Leftwich Tennis Center. Liutova entered the tournament through qualifying, having risen from a year‑end ranking of 714 to 229 before the event, and the victory propels her to an estimated world No. 126, her first appearance inside the top 130.

The win makes Liutova the youngest WTA champion since Coco Gauff’s 2019 title and the second‑youngest ever to win a WTA 250 event, after Mirjana Lucic’s 1997 triumph. She earned 268 ranking points and a $37,390 prize purse. The Russian Tennis Federation publicly distanced itself, with president Šamil Tarpiszczew stating, “We have nothing to do with her,” citing her upbringing in the United States.
