Kristjan Čeh wins gold and sets record at European Athletics Championships

Kristjan Čeh secured a gold medal in discus throw at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, delivering one of the most significant performances for Slovenia at the event. His throw of 72.51 meters set a new European Championship record and earned him 1291 points according to World Athletics scoring, making it the third-best performance of the entire championship.

While Čeh achieved major success, the rest of the Slovenian delegation faced challenges. Despite traveling with 27 athletes, Slovenia earned only one medal. Other notable competitors fell short of their goals, including Klara Lukanje in the 10,000m, Neja Filipič in the triple jump, and Tina Šutej.

Other major winners at the championships included Mondo Duplantis, who won the men's pole vault with a championship record of 6.15 meters, and Karsten Warholm, who won the 400m hurdles. Other gold medalists included Henriette Jæger in the women's 400m and Andreas Almgren in the men's 10,000m.
