Krita 5.3.3 Released as Stable Version for Professional Use

The Krita development team announced the release of Krita 5.3.3, the latest maintenance update to the stable branch of the open‑source digital‑painting application. The release is positioned as the recommended edition for production work, while Krita 6.0.3, built on the newer Qt 6 framework, remains experimental.

Key enhancements in 5.3.3 include proper HDR animation rendering with FFmpeg 7.0+, fixes for animation playback stalls, and resolution of crashes related to text shapes, combined shapes, and null event pointers. The update also eliminates a deadlock that could occur during perspective transformations, prevents layers from being deselected when a transform starts, and improves selection handling. Font management is more reliable, metadata loading (XMP/EXIF) is corrected, and the comic‑panel editor and welcome‑screen thumbnails receive usability upgrades. Android animation import/export has been temporarily removed pending further work.
