Kriti Sanon highlights women's safety concerns on Daughter's Day

Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon has used Daughter’s Day to highlight urgent concerns regarding women’s safety in India. Through social media posts, she criticized the societal norms that force women to adopt constant vigilance as a lifestyle, such as sharing live locations, carrying pepper spray, and avoiding walking alone at night.

Sanon argued that a true celebration of Daughter’s Day would only occur when women can exist in public spaces—such as parks after dark or using public transport—without the fear of assault or the need to constantly calculate personal risk. She emphasized that society should focus on teaching men about consent, respect, and accountability rather than placing the burden of safety on women.

Her comments coincide with significant public unrest following reports of sexual assault and harassment in Bihar and Delhi. Sanon also addressed the disparity in public outrage, noting that social criticism regarding women’s clothing often outweighs the collective anger directed toward violent crimes like rape and domestic violence.
