Kırıkkale releases partridges to control tick populations
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks has released partridges into the wild in Kırıkkale to help control tick populations. The birds, brought from the Yozgat Partridge Production Station, were released in the Yahşihan district during a ceremony attended by Governor Hüseyin Engin Sarıibrahim.
The initiative aims to strengthen the natural balance and protect biological diversity by utilizing the partridges' natural feeding habits to reduce the number of ticks and similar pests. To ensure the success of the project and allow the wildlife population to strengthen, the release area will be closed to hunting for at least three years.
Since 2003, a total of 21,025 partridges have been released in Kırıkkale through these efforts. The most recent release included 400 chukar partridges.
