Kırklar Mescidi mosque is being rebuilt in Trabzon

The Kırklar Mescidi, a mosque located at an altitude of 3,180 meters on the Trabzon-Bayburt border, is being reconstructed following a fire that destroyed it last November. The rebuilding efforts are nearing completion despite challenging weather conditions at the rocky summit in the Şekersu Plateau.

The project is being carried out through the support of the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality, contributions from philanthropists, and the efforts of volunteers from the Kırklar Mountain Mosque Beautification and Preservation Association. The new structure utilizes traditional wooden architecture and aims to preserve the original design, including the original stone used in the mihrab.

Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç stated that the municipality took the initiative to protect the spiritual value of the site. The reconstruction includes two small minarets for aesthetic purposes, separate prayer areas for men and women, and improvements to visitor accessibility, such as the creation of a parking area and road enhancements.
