Krkonoše mayors call for dismissal of KRNAP director
Several mayors and Senator Jan Sobotka have publicly called for the resignation or dismissal of Petr Moravec, the director of the Krkonoše National Park (KRNAP) Administration. Sobotka, who also chairs the Association of Krkonoše Towns and Municipalities, claims that Moravec’s leadership and proposed organizational changes threaten the future functioning of the national park.
Critics argue that a lack of communication regarding personnel changes and a proposed reorganization plan could lead to institutional incompetence, the loss of trust from local municipalities, and the potential closure of certain park museums. The dispute follows a controversial selection process for the director position, which Sobotka described as a “faked selection process” where the winner was known in advance.
Internal instability is also reported, with Josef Taláb, a former department head and candidate for the director position, resigning in August. Taláb cited a loss of confidence in the director and a misalignment with professional values. Additionally, the KRNAP spokesperson confirmed that the administration is currently working on dismissing certain employees.
