Yogyakarta commuter services see passenger growth in 2026

Public transportation services in the Yogyakarta region, including KAI Commuter, DAMRI, and KA Prameks, continue to facilitate regional mobility. During the first half of 2026, KAI Commuter Area 6 Yogyakarta reported serving nearly 5.3 million passengers, a 6.82% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Among commuter line users, the Kartu Multi Trip (KMT) is the most popular payment method, accounting for 37% of transactions. This is closely followed by the Go-Transit feature within the Gojek application at 36%, and e-money cards at 13%.

Commuter rail services such as the KRL Jogja-Solo and KA Prameks Jogja-Kutoarjo provide essential connections for workers, students, and business travelers. These services offer various departure schedules throughout the day to help passengers avoid road traffic congestion. Additionally, DAMRI bus services provide connectivity between Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) and strategic locations in Yogyakarta and Sleman.
