Krnov infrastructure plans threaten Kabátův kopec biodiversity
The Kabátův kopec locality near Krnov, a site of significant biodiversity in Silesia, faces potential impact from the planned western bypass of Krnov and new residential housing developments.
An entomological survey conducted in 2024 revealed that the area supports approximately fifty species of day butterflies, including fourteen endangered species. This stability in species richness contrasts with the general decline of butterfly diversity observed across the Czech landscape.
The ZO ČSOP Slezské odrůdy association, which has managed approximately seven to eight hectares of the area since 2018, has expressed concerns regarding the city's commitment to nature protection in the face of these infrastructure projects.
