Krnov tests energy sharing to reduce public facility costs

The town of Krnov is testing an energy-sharing model to reduce operational costs for public facilities. By utilizing local renewable energy sources through the non-profit association Enerkom Krnovsko, the local swimming pool has already seen significant electricity savings.

During July, renewable energy covered 15 percent of the pool's total consumption, increasing to 28 percent during August. The technical services in Krnov saved approximately 15,000 CZK through the use of 10 MWh of shared energy. This electricity is sourced from surplus photovoltaic systems located on the roofs of private homes, businesses, and public buildings across the region, including Jindřichov, Jeseník, and Vysoká.

The program currently benefits households, companies, and public institutions, including the local athletic and winter stadiums. Local authorities are currently evaluating the savings and the potential for expanding the use of local shared energy in the coming months.
