Kroger Tops Walmart and Others in Store‑Brand Grocery Price Study

A recent pricing study of 15 store‑brand grocery items compared Kroger, Walmart, Aldi and Albertsons. Kroger posted the lowest total cost at $30, edging out Walmart ($30.95), Aldi ($33.15) and Albertsons ($35.58). Kroger was cheapest on 10 of the 15 items, particularly pantry staples such as canned tomatoes, spaghetti and sugar, while Aldi led on dairy prices.

The study comes amid rising food costs, which have increased about 32% over the past five years, prompting many households to rely on credit cards for groceries. Separate consumer analyses note that Walmart generally offers lower prices than its regional competitor King Soopers on staple items, though price gaps vary by category, location and loyalty programs. Overall, focusing on store‑brand products can help shoppers reduce grocery bills.
