Krokstadelva Fire Reunites Families with Lost Cats

A large fire broke out on Friday afternoon in Krokstadelva, Norway, leaving more than 100 homes destroyed or severely damaged. Residents rushed to evacuate, and many pets went missing as the flames swept through the neighbourhood.

In the aftermath, several families were able to locate their cats. Mother Gunn Saghaugen Falkbäck and daughter Felicia found their cats Elli (12) and Ofelia (4) unharmed inside their house, which escaped damage despite surrounding destruction. Police set up cages and the Animal Protection agency assisted owners searching for missing animals.

A nearby couple, Frank and Lena Stiby, discovered their cat Mio about 100 metres from the ruins of their burnt home. Lena told VG, “It’s luck. I’m so happy.” Both stories highlight the emotional relief for owners amid the broader loss of housing and community infrastructure.
