Krosno Honors Ignacy Łukasiewicz with Light, Science and Steampunk Festival

On Sunday, 26 July, the historic old town of Krosno hosted the "Świet(l)ne Miasto Krosno" festival, a program that linked the legacy of Ignacy Łukasiewicz with contemporary science, technology and art. The Regional Center of Border Cultures organized exhibitions of oil‑lamp history, mobile scientific laboratories, experimental workshops and large‑format games. Participants could join guided oil‑walks, see displays from the Zespół Szkół Naftowo‑Gazowniczych, the Museum of Oil and Gas Industry in Bóbrka, EXALO Drilling and ORLEN TECHNOLOGIE, among others.

Artistic highlights included a steampunk parade on the market square and a concert by the Municipal Mining Brass Orchestra. The ceremony concluded with a symbolic relighting of the monument to Łukasiewicz, commemorating the 173rd anniversary of the first oil lamp in the world.

The event celebrated both the city’s industrial heritage and modern curiosity, offering free entry and a blend of educational and cultural activities for residents and visitors.
