Krucza Dolina introduces horses to protect rare butterfly habitats

In Krucza Dolina near Lubawka, horses have been introduced to assist in nature conservation efforts. The animals are being used to graze the meadows, preventing the overgrowth of shrubs and trees that would otherwise lead to the loss of open grassland.

This method aims to preserve the habitat of the rare Apollo butterfly and other nectar-producing plants and invertebrates. The practice of using livestock for land management is a return to traditional methods used in the Karkonosze region during the 18th and 19th centuries. The horses, provided by Grzegorz Antoniszyn from Stajnia Rajdowa Chełmsko Śląskie, will graze for several weeks to help maintain the diverse meadow structure.
