Kruger National Park: Poacher killed by elephants during rhino hunting attempt

A suspected rhino poaching attempt in South Africa’s Kruger National Park resulted in the death of one suspect after a herd of elephants reportedly charged the group. Two armed men had allegedly entered the Pafuri area of the park illegally with a high-powered rifle and an axe, intending to hunt white rhinos.

According to South African National Parks officials, the suspects encountered the elephants near a water source and fled in different directions. One suspect was later located dead by rangers near a rhino herd, while the second suspect was arrested and handed over to the South African Police Service.

Rangers recovered the high-powered rifle and axe at the scene. The incident highlights the ongoing struggle against illegal wildlife-trafficking networks targeting rhino horns.
